Returns & Refunds Policy

Last updated: September 2026

This policy applies to purchases made through Foxhill Auctions. It should be read alongside our Auction Terms and Conditions, which form part of the contract between the buyer, the seller and Foxhill Auctions.

Before bidding

All lots are sold as described and illustrated in the auction catalogue. Many items offered at auction are antique, second-hand or previously owned and may therefore show signs of age, wear, restoration or use.

Buyers should carefully review all photographs, descriptions and available condition information before bidding. Additional information or a condition report may be requested by emailing sales@foxhillauctions.co.uk before the auction.

Condition reports represent our honest opinion but are not a guarantee of condition. The absence of a reference to damage or restoration does not necessarily mean that a lot is free from defects.

Cancellation rights for online purchases

Where a lot is purchased entirely online by a consumer from a seller acting in the course of a business, the buyer may have the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days of receiving the lot under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

To exercise this right, the buyer must notify us clearly by emailing sales@foxhillauctions.co.uk within 14 days of receiving the lot.

The lot must then be returned within 14 days of notifying us of the cancellation. It must be returned in the same condition in which it was received and must include any cases, certificates, packaging or accompanying items included in the original sale.

Cancellation rights may not apply where:

  • The seller is a private individual rather than a trader;
  • The buyer is purchasing for business or commercial purposes;
  • The buyer attended, or had the opportunity to attend, a public auction in person;
  • A statutory exemption applies to the particular goods; or
  • The goods have been altered, damaged or handled beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect them.

Nothing in this policy affects a buyer’s statutory rights.

Return postage for change-of-mind cancellations

Unless the lot is faulty, damaged in transit or materially different from its catalogue description, the buyer is responsible for the cost and safe return of the lot.

Returns must be appropriately packaged and sent using a tracked and adequately insured delivery service. The buyer remains responsible for the lot until it has been safely received by Foxhill Auctions.

We cannot accept responsibility for returned items that are lost or damaged in transit.

Damaged, faulty or misdescribed lots

If a lot arrives damaged, is faulty, or is materially different from its catalogue description, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible at sales@foxhillauctions.co.uk.

Please provide:

  • Your name and invoice number;
  • The relevant lot number;
  • A description of the problem;
  • Clear photographs of the lot; and
  • Photographs of the parcel and packaging if the item was damaged during delivery.

Please retain all original packaging while the matter is investigated. We may ask for the lot to be returned before issuing a refund.

Where a return is accepted because the lot is damaged, faulty or materially misdescribed, Foxhill Auctions will arrange or reimburse reasonable return postage costs.

Refunds

Once a returned lot has been received and inspected, we will confirm whether the refund has been approved.

Approved refunds will normally include the purchase price, applicable buyer’s premium and any standard outbound delivery charge where required by law. Additional delivery services selected by the buyer may not be refundable.

Refunds will be made using the original payment method wherever possible. They will be processed without undue delay and, where statutory cancellation rights apply, no later than 14 days after we receive the returned lot or satisfactory evidence that it has been sent back.

We may reduce a refund where the value of a returned lot has been diminished through unnecessary handling, damage, alteration, cleaning or removal from sealed or protective packaging.

Please allow additional time for your bank or card provider to credit the refund to your account.
